Director's Message,

What a year!

It is hard to believe that we will soon be finishing our third year! Walt Disney once said “You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful ideas in the world, but it requires people to make the dream a reality”. This is certainly the case for me as MCDS Director and Founder. The reality is that the learning experiences and projects that have taken place this year could not have happened without commitment and support from the staff, volunteers, donors, parents and students.

One of my greatest pleasures is sharing what we are doing at Monroe Country Day School!

  1. We have surpassed our enrollment goal for our third year.

  2. We now have 14 teachers.

  3. We had another successful Polar Express Community Event. We hope this becomes a signature event for our school.

  4. For the second time we competed in the Monroe Christmas Parade. The float was magnificent and MCDS received Honorable Mention for the second time.

  5. We now have a certified Physical Education teacher and all students 2nd and above receive PE daily.

  6. We met our goal in GASSO pledges and will be able to continue offering our students partial scholarships.

  7. We have a meeting scheduled with Athens Technical College in February to discuss Move On When Ready.

MCDS believes that learning and becoming a good citizen truly is a cooperative endeavor, so once again, we thank each of you for taking the time and interest to remain involved. The only way we have been able to do so much is because of the dedication of the teachers and you!

Best wishes for a great 2019!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rita Dickinson
Founder/Director

Our Philosophy

MCDS’s mission is to cultivate the next generation of creative problem solvers for tomorrow’s complex problems. Applying skills, in depth class discussions and service learning differentiates us from schools where students often perform traditional seat work. We adhere to clear high standards and expect our students to master subject matter. But above all, we seek to instill understanding. MCDS sees understanding as important as arriving at the right answer.

Our History

Monroe Country Day School was founded in 2015 by Dr. Rita Dickinson. Dr. Dickinson spent her career as a social worker, teacher, a state level CIS Curriculum Director, a national School Improvement Consultant and Walton County Project Director. Dr. Dickinson’s career culminated a school where experienced faculty nurture, guide and encourage students to achieve academic excellence and social responsibility. While MCDS covers basic skills, our  curriculum emphasizes integrated projects, honors depth over breadth, and accentuates creative problem-solving.
