Frequently Asked Questions
- Your curriculum and educational philosophy: We use Core Knowledge Sequence, which we chose because it is aligned with and supports our mission of developing the whole child to be a productive member of society, as well as connected and involved in his or her community and beyond. Its layering and scaffolding technique helps the student develop deeper understanding in all subjects as they interconnect across subjects. We also use Saxon math, which looks boring to the eye, but is simply amazing in its ability to revisit skills so they are not forgotten.
- What a typical day looks like for elementary students: We start our day with all academics covered in the morning, all take their rotating 30 minute break for recess, lunch, then end the day with their specials (PE, art, drama, etc.).
- Class sizes and student-to-teacher ratios: Pre-K & K have a teacher & parapro, with a 16 student max enrollment. First - 5th will be one teacher per maximum of 12-16 students, and 6th-12th has one teacher per 12 students max.
- Your approach to technology in the classroom: We prefer minimal technology in the classroom, as well as encourage the same at home. Upper grades begin introducing technology only as fitting, necessary, and appropriate.
- Whether elementary students are provided with computers/tablets for schoolwork and homework, or whether you primarily use traditional books, workbooks, and paper assignments: We prefer the traditional books, pencil, & paper. You could call us "old-school" and be extremely accurate!
