HEAD OF SCHOOL

Director of School

Dr. Rita Dickinson

In my 30 plus years of working in the classroom and in educational leadership, I have come to believe that children need a warm and supportive environment to thrive.  Over the years it has become clear to me that the Country Day model most closely reflects the balance of personal and academic growth that I feel is so important to education.

Monroe Country Day School is designed to prepare your child, both academically and personally, for a lifetime of success. Our school model focuses on strong academic growth as well as a warm and supportive environment. We provide an atmosphere where students are free to be curious and foster a love of exploration. Guided by experienced teachers and surrounded by supportive classmates, our students enjoy the challenge of learning.

As students grow, they apply learned skills through hands on activities, in-depth discussions, and community service. This application of knowledge develops a strong understanding of the material being studied. Albert Einstein once quipped, “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.”  We believe that our students’ understanding is as important as arriving at the right answer.   It is this understanding that equips students with the confidence and independence necessary for a lifetime of success.

As an administrator, I appreciate MCDS’s focus on hands-on, student-led, “learning by leading,” experiential approaches, as well as nurturing the multifaceted elements of leadership that benefit all children. I look forward to supporting the academic success of our students and enhancing programs that contribute to their social and emotional wellbeing and development. As such, I am committed to developing the breadth and depth of the opportunities we offer our students in clubs, activities, and electives as well as a rigorous curriculum. All these things are essential to the success of our children, and our school, and I intend to make excellent contributions to every aspect of the student experience.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Monroe Country Day School is a volunteer board.  It is responsible for the integrity of the school’s standing as well as the reputation that has been built by its founders and those who have labored over the years. It is entrusted with the school’s future as well as its present. The Board is considered the guardian of the school's mission and vision and works in tandem with the Head of School to assess the performance, financial condition and strategic direction of the school. Board members complete three-year terms and come from the ranks of current parents, past parents, grandparents, alumni and members of the community who value education and what Monroe Country Day School means to the greater Monroe area.
